Brookfield Zoo Carousel House, Brookfield, Illinois

In the spring of 2005, ICON sales and design personnel began meeting with staff members at the zoo to discuss the upcoming carousel project. Working with the carousel manufacturer and an experienced architectural firm, ICON beat out two other proposals, and the work began.
The ICON Carousel House (Model number is DO100S2C-P5) measures 100' point-to-point at the roof. This two-tiered clerestory structure features a pre-cut structural insulated roof system, clerestory Lexan glazing, and an enclosed bell cupola.
The carousel was designed and manufactured by The Carousel Works in Mansfield, Ohio. They are the only carousel manufacturer in the USA who still hand carves the figures.
Design work for the carousel house was performed by The Weber Group, Inc. in Sellersburg, IN, who also did construction management. The temporary yellow and green column cladding will be replace by permanant column cladding with additional architectural detailing.
